Monkey Kettle Slam II - The Poetry Smackdown! - 9th September 2006

Two poets. Three rounds. Testosterone-fuelled Poetry History!

Danni says:

The Second slam sought a different format, two poets, three rounds, with interim acts including local bands, acoustic stuff, comedy… oh, and an open-mic poetry slot. Indeed, the focus did seem to slip away from the poetry, but with the contest between the two poets (emoting and ranting in great mock-battle fashion) and the varied cast, it was an exciting evening’s entertainment. And there was cake… a lot of cake!

Fay says:

This round of Lyrical Armageddon was directly kicked-off by the events of the first, resulting in Monkey Kettle’s Simon Edwards “calling out” a dark rock poetry figure known only as “Bleed The Waiter”* to a Poetry Smackdown - a no-holds-barred personal verse-fight between two long-haired proponents of the arts of Poetry, Performance, and Being A Bit Goth. Interspersed with this was a great deal of music, comedy, and an open mike poetry night for other local luminaries. Three audience members judged BTW the overall winner, and everyone went home with ringing ears and full of cake. Nice.

Stay tuned for words from other witnesses!
