Danni K says:
It was poetry, it was cabaret, it was everything we wished for, and they came from far and wide to join the party.
We opened with a new poet’s eloquent take on racism past and present. And we ended with the fruits of the inaugural “Beermat poetry” contest, which bore such great results that it is guaranteed to be a staple feature in future nights.
The audience were welcomed to their candle-lit tables by the Sitar stylings of Rooh, before our Master of Ceremonies, Dr Absinthe, and Monkey Kettle’s Editor in Chief, MatthewMT, offered their introductions as to who we are and what we expected from our lucky, lucky audience.
It was the friendliest affair so far, but that didn’t mean that there was no competitive spirit. The talents of seasoned pros and keen newcomers were interlaced and put to the test. New stars emerged, particularly Alan and his sonnets and Little Jean’s charismatic performance. With so many performers and contributors, the Poetry Kapow! maintained a lively atmosphere and, encouraged by the enjoyment of it all, we’re at it again.
Winner of the night was our own Fay Roberts, prompting a unanimous vote from us that, in future events, whilst we can take part (yeah, you try to stop us!) we’re no longer allowed to compete!
This means one thing… we need you more than ever!
The Monkey’s not dead, in fact he’s just warming up!! Poetry Kapow! : The Resurrection, is coming to the Madcap this May.
Roll up! Roll up!
More words from other witnesses to follow...!
